Fatih Flavor Route: Journey Starting from Beyazıt Gate

On the first day of July, while Istanbul’s historic peninsula still bears the warm traces of summer, the Fatih district draws flavor hunters to itself. Walking in the shadows of Beyazıt Square in the early hours, the scent of the streets already sparks a menu.

Beyazıt Gate is an entrance gate that welcomes you with massive wooden doors from the Ottoman era; when you pass through the gate, historic inns line the left side and sesame rings and pastry stalls line the right. This gate serves as a door opening into the heart of the district, becoming the natural starting point of your flavor route.

After exiting the gate and walking to the right, the cheese pastry and hot tea served in the courtyard of the historic Büyük Yeni Han provide a perfect stop for breakfast. Continuing on, you can taste Turkish coffee and Turkish delight in a coffeehouse that seems hidden in the back alleys of the Grand Bazaar, and a little further you can satisfy yourself with homemade white beans and rice at a tradesmen's tavern.

The route ends with a light sweet break in the late afternoon: ice cream and syrupy desserts beside a historic fountain provide a delicious close to the day. This walk not only satisfies the stomach but also lets you taste the layered history of Fatih.
